Developing a sensitivity to the breath can help us experience a greater sense of space within ourselves. We may then feel more expanded and demand less space around us. Breathing can teach us how to handle our emotions and gain an understanding of our thoughts, thus helping to make our lives more creative, spontaneous, and happy. And, although we may not be fond of discipline, we should remember that the word discipline and disciple both come from the root meaning "to learn." If we are willing to become disciples of the breath, we will find it to be a very valuable friend and teacher.
