What matters is the proper spiritual intention (kavanah) that one adopts even while performing the most routine and mundane acts. Hasidism taught that evil is only that which is "not yet good." There is no such thing as an evil thought. Hasidism called libidinous thoughts "strange thoughts" and recognized that these thoughts intrude routinely upon a man during the course of a day, especially during prayer. They regarded these thoughts not as evil but rather as opportunities to capture the passion and energy of the libido and redirect it toward passionate, even erotic prayer.
