There is a deep connection between what we have learned about rest and what we have learned about food, money, and sex. The Kabbalists taught that Shabbat, the Day of Rest, was itself the Divine Wellspring from which all sheaf, the entire stream of Divine abundance, flowed forth into the world. In our own day, we can see that it is Rest that renews and makes possible the continuing flow of food, money, and sexuality, the great flows of abundance in our earthly, earthy lives. If we are so thirsty to create more abundance for ourselves that we refuse to rest, we poison and choke the flow of earthy abundance. The spiritual insights of our greatest mystics and the practical teachings of wisest scientists fuse into one.
