The way of art can be the most moral of all, if it is lived with honesty and in a transparent search for images that reveal the figures and patterns of life. Too often we look at the arts and focus our attention on the pictures or on the aural or visual patterns in their technical brilliance. But these pictures are only the tools of the artist who surrenders a lifetime to the work of evoking the most spiritual and moral themes through arrangements in matter.
