It is winter and the young ones are curious as to whether it will snow tonight. A fox, a hare, and a little girl are united in their question. The mothers are patient, knowing that all things come in their right time. They are also good at reading the signs of nature. It's almost time for it to snow: "The wind is brrrr. The bushes bare. The berries picked." There are other signs too which signal the coming of the snow. Each of the mothers knows in her body that the final and definitive indicator is the moon.

This picture book by Nancy White Carlstrom and illustrated by Paul Tong is aimed at children ages 5 - 8. It celebrates the joys of the natural world, the connections between humans and animals, and the wisdom of mothers.
