Fathers John Trigilio and Kenneth Brighenti are well-versed on the history and practices of the church, given their co-authorship of Catholicism for Dummies. They also co-host a weekly television program called Crash Course on Catholicism. Poet Robert Louis Stevenson said that "Saints are the sinners who keep on trying." Protestant preacher Frederick Buechner stated "if a saint touches you, you come alive in a new way."
Trigilio and Brighenti begin with explanations of what sainthood is, the criteria the Catholic Church uses in its process of canonization, and an overview of some of the first Christian saints (apostles and evangelists) in history. They then move on to the lives and accomplishments of 300 saints, including martyrs, incorruptibles, saints of nobility, saintly popes and doctors of the church, founding fathers and mothers, saintly pastors, North American saints, and some modern-day saints-to-be. The authors do a fine job with their coverage of relics, shrines, pilgrimages, litanies and novena prayers for saints, a listing of patron saints, and a calendar of feast days for the saints.
