Agnes Cunningham was one of the first female theologians to teach at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago. She has traveled the world — hundreds of thousands of miles since 1960 — conducting workshops, retreats, study days, and consultations. In this handy and accessible book of 30 prayers, she shows how our devotional life can be enriched through attention to such an ordinary experience as flying in an airplane.

In a section called "Wings" Cunningham includes prayers for take-off, first flight, in the cockpit, flight attendants, companions in flight, flight commuter, morning shuttle, and carry-on-luggage. Each of these is accompanied by a short poetic prayer and a Scriptural passage. Reading these prayers we are reminded that God is present in all of our activities and experiences.

The second section serves as a cue to mindfulness as we travel in the airplane and are "Soaring." Cunningham opens our hearts and minds to see the meanings inherent in meals service, solitude in the sky, a flight filled to capacity, an international flight, being vacation bound, and more.

The last section is titled "Earthbound" and contains prayers about some of the inconveniences at airports that demand patience and compassion. We've often wondered why there aren't more devotional resources like this available for practicing spirituality at malls, at sports events, at music concerts, and at movie theatres.
