According to the latest figures, half of the world's population — nearly 3 billion people — are under the age of 25. One out of every four people diagnosed with HIV is between the ages of 13 and 29. Worldwide, for young women ages 15 - 19 in low-and-middle-income countries, complications from pregnancy are the leading cause of death. These startling figures help shine a light on this hopeful book for children 4 - 8. Photographer Takashi Owaki visited 55 countries around the world and asked 1,460 children: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Dreams Around the World presents the stories and yearnings of 13 children who have high hopes about their future. We wish them well and realize that serious work on the planet must be started right now to insure the viability of their resplendent dreams.
