Claude is a small plump dog who has a knack for being available to those who are in some kind of trouble or life-threatening situation. He has proven his heroic exploits in Claude in the City and Claude at the Circus. His buddy Sir Bobblysock accompanies him on these adventures.

Claude has never been on a vacation and decides it would be cool to go on one with his friend. Arriving at their destination, they head to the beach to sit in the sun after putting on sunscreen. But before Claude can begin to relax he hears someone shouting and sees a man thrashing about in the water with a shark nearby. The lifeguard is flirting with a woman and so Claude dog-paddles out to the man, diverts the shark, and pulls off another rescue. Meanwhile, Sir Bobblysock wins a prize for his magnificent sand castle.

Alex T. Smith is in fine form with this episode about one of our favorite dog characters. It concludes with Claude's search for pirate treasure. This dog and his sock friend draw out our playful self which we usually keep hidden. We eagerly look forward to the next installment of this series of books for children from 6 through 9 years old.
