Deep in the woods, Chicken lives alone in a house with a red roof. No one lives next door in the place with a blue roof. Day by day, Chicken goes through his routines secretly hoping to have a neighbor who could eventually become a friend. One day he notices that someone has moved in next door, but day after day, he doesn't see his new neighbor. Finally, Chicken writes a note inviting this stranger to his house for a visit. Meanwhile, Owl has been looking forward to meeting his neighbor, but whenever he is awake, Chicken is asleep. He's thrilled to get an invitation, but it's only by chance that the two actually meet. Chicken then comes up with a creative solution to their problem of different schedules.

Who's Next Door? is written by Mayuko Kishira and crisply illustrated by Jun Takabatake and designed for readers age 3 to 7. In these times when everyone is so busy, it is nice to have a story about creatively finding a way to connect with another who's different from you in every way. It proves that opposities can establish meaningful relationships!
