Jan L. Richardson is an artist, writer, and ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. She serves as director of the Wellspring Studio and travels as a retreat leader and conference speaker. In this splendidly written paperback, Richardson has fashioned a singular devotional work on language, images, prayer, stories, and other reflections that map women's search for the holy.

The daily offerings include invocations, texts to read, meditation pieces, questions for reflection, and blessings. For each day of the year, she gives an invocation. Richardson is a sensitive master of prayers and blessings which she peppers throughout her reflections on the seasons of the church year:

Birthing the Holy: The Season of Advent and Christmas
Wisdom's Journey: Epiphany and the Season Following
Remembering Our Wounds: The Season of Lent
Women in Community: The Season from Easter to Pentecost
Living the Rhythms: Ordinary Time

The last section reveals the author in high stride as she discovers the holy in her home, reveals the challenges we all have in being "spiritual midwives," and salutes the confluence of faith expressed across the generations.
