What a wonderful world we live in! That is the delightful truth of this children's book by Akiko Miyakoshi, author of The Tea Party in the Woods, which won the Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prix. She lives in Tokyo, Japan. The Way Home in the Night has been designed for children ages 3 to 7 years of age.

A young bunny rests peacefully cradled in the arms of his mother as she carries him home through the dark streets of the city. The little one is enchanted by the sights, sounds, and smells coming from the animal homes they pass.

The end of the day has come and the restaurant and bookshop are closing for the night. The bunny hears a phone ring and wonders who is calling. He smells a pie being taken out of the oven. Windows reveal someone watching TV while a party goes on next door. In another apartment, someone is saying goodbye to another.

All tired out by this exciting excursion, the bunny arrives home and is tucked in bed. So much has been taken in during the walk home. More is yet to come as the bunny revisits the sights, the sounds, and the smells of the night. What are all those animals doing now? For those with a good imagination and a grateful heart, some nights are very special.
