John Dominic Crossan's The Historical Jesus (1992) set off a fire storm of controversy within the community of Christian scholars. Many were shocked by his stripping away of the many myths surrounding this itinerant Jew; others were stunned by the ramifications of his conclusions when related to the hierarchy and leadership of the established contemporary church. This paperback presents papers by nine scholars given at DePaul University in Chicago where Crossan teaches. Among the topics discussed in light of The Historical Jesus are theology, Catholicism, feminism, Judaism, Buddhism, business, and parish life. At the end of the book, Crossan responds to these papers.
