This is an impressively rendered memoir by the man who fulfilled the dreams of his father and mother by becoming both a surgeon and a writer. This book provides a glimpse of the author's youth in Troy, New York, during the Depression. Selzer is at his best in descriptions of healing, doctors, hospitals, imagination, and death. Bravo!
