Susan and Larry Terkel have been writing, teaching, and leading seminars for more than 30 years. They are co-founders of the Spiritual Life Center and the Hudson Yoga Center and live in Ohio. In this handy and spiffy paperback, they chart some of the many ways you can bring serious transformations in your life by small changes.

It is easier to take tiny steps than to attempt major makeovers. And small changes add up to big benefits over time. For example: "Replace a soft drink with water at just one meal — say, lunch. With this small change, you will drink approximately forty more gallons of water per year, while not drinking forty gallons of carbonated sugar. You will also save up to fifty thousand calories and as much as five hundred dollars." Another example: Read only a few pages a day and in a year you will have completed one or two books. Try smiling more to improve the way you relate to people and your own well-being. Write thank you notes to people and refrain from raining on other people's parades.

The Terkels cherish the spiritual art of listening and have a neat little summary of ways people can block this art. They advise: "The secret to staying on course is being able to visualize your destination. So, again, no excuses. If you want small change to work, you need to muster up a small amount (small, we repeat) of self-control, self-discipline, and a great big dose of trust in the power of small change to make a big difference in your life." This is a helpful little book on the grand project of personal transformation.
