This brief volume is part of the Henri Nouwen Spirituality Project developed in a partnership between the Henri Nouwen Society and Upper Room Ministries. The series editor is John Mugabgab and the preface is by Carolyn Whitney-Brown.

Jesus, according to Henri Nouwen, believed that God had made a domicile in his heart enabling him to be at home anywhere and everywhere. The invitation to his disciples is to dwell with the Holy One and to live in freedom.

"Prayer is the most concrete way to make our home in God." It is the means whereby we reach out in the darkness and turn on the light. Followers of Christ must do what he did so courageously — love his enemies and make a home in his heart for them. It is love, not fear, that animates our days and actions.

Joy and suffering are vividly present in the life and ministry of Jesus. Nouwen notes: "Everything that belongs to Jesus is given for us to receive." We open or hearts to both friends and strangers. We seek new forms of community and new acts of service. We can do amazing things because God is at home in us!
