No one turned his face toward women more than Christ did, as one turns to look at some greenery, as one leans over the waters of a river to draw strength from them and a taste for continuing on the way. Women are almost as numerous in the Bible as birds. They are there at the beginning and they are there at the end. They bring God into the world, they watch Him grow up, play, die; then they bring Him back to life with simple gestures of crazy love, the same gestures since the beginning of the world, in the caves of prehistory and in the overheated rooms of maternity wards.
