To renounce the world means renouncing the motivations that a sensitive person eschews in the world — selfishness, greed, avarice, manipulation, dishonesty — with their resulting consequences: unkindness, aggression, cruelty, feuds, war, monstrosity, grossness, vulgarity. To renounce one's self means renouncing one's ego.
