What is peace? What is Jesus telling us to be makers of? His peace is not merely absence of war, not even absence of conflict, not peace at any price. Basically, I think the peace of which Jesus speaks is a calm tranquil state of mind in which the individual is no longer torn here and there by unfulfilled desires, unfinished business, bitterness, anger, or delusion, which includes clinging to views and opinions. Above all it seems to require the absence of greed and envy. Greed in Buddhism is seen as one of the basic enemies to spiritual growth.
