The true measure of a daily practice is that the practice itself is joyful, loving, gentle. As St. Teresa said, "All the way to heaven is heaven." We need not be obsessed with whether or not we are doing the "right" spiritual thing, the thing that will "make us spiritual." We are already spiritual. Cooking can be spiritual; working can be spiritual; gardening, driving, answering the phone, making love, cleaning out the refrigerator can all be spiritual activities. It is our belief they are not that brings us a sense of separateness from our selves.
