“In my humble opinion, sex is pretty damn amazing. While I want to recognize and acknowledge that many people do not experience sexual attraction — our asexual siblings — for the vast majority of people, sex is something we think about and engage in often. Sex is a vital part of human life and, in fact, is the primary source of creating human life, which is why most humans are biologically wired to desire to have sex. But sex is not just a means of procreation. In fact, I’d argue that this has not been the primary use of sex for thousands of years. Sex is also a means of intense pleasure and a way to express love and connection with another person. In this sense, sex is truly beautiful and fun. But if sex is so great, why has Christianity been pretty uniformly anti-sex throughout most of its history?

“That’s a complex question. The correct answer is not ‘because the Bible says so,’ because the truth is that while the Bible does contain some strange rules about sex that virtually nobody adheres to anymore, the Bible is not a fundamentally anti-sex book.”
