Having written more than 55 books, Deepak Chopra is a man of immense energy and focus. He is the founder of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad, California, and Manhattan, New York. He is profiled on this website as a Living Spiritual Teacher. Taking a cue from the structure of his bestseller The Seven Laws of Success, Chopra spins out his own idiosyncratic interpretation of the the wisdom that is available to us in the words and deeds of today's superheroes in comic books and blockbuster movies. The author's son, Gotham Chopra, who is affiliated with Liquid Comics, has made a few contributions to the book.

Chopra claims that the stories of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Wolverine are metaphors for the challenges and conflicts we face in our own lives. As they work through conflicts, they can teach us about light and dark, good and evil. So the next time you are decked by an emotion or a project beyond your abilities, remember The Law of Balance, the first of the seven, amidst all the chaos.

Chopra not only includes the superheroes of today's scene but also the gods of mythology and the extraordinary ones such as Buddha and Jesus. In his discussion of The Law of Transformation, he salutes all superheroes for their empathy and fresh perspective:

"To be able to see and take in the world from a place of shared concern and compassion is to open ourselves to the true wonder of the universe, where everyday existence is inspired and every challenge is embraced with confidence and creativity."

Superheroes adhere to The Law of Power whereby they are subservient to no one, fearless, and able to empower others. Are you ready for this one? Superheroes follow The Law of Love by taking on the suffering of others and coming up with creative solutions that no one else could have done. Through The Law of Creativity, these wonder workers can "conquer any challenge and obstacle they may face." Superheroes are masters of The Law of Intention and The Law of Transcendence which enable them to take on the problems of the world. Chopra concludes: "The superhero is the exquisite combination of dynamic action and stillness of mind."
