Catty Jane danced in her crib as a baby and as a child she yearned to become a ballerina someday. So when the time is right, her mother agrees to let her take ballet lessons at Mrs. Herron's Dance Academy. She is told by the teacher that the key to becoming a great ballerina is lots of practice. Catty Jane promises to do that and dances all the way home.

When she meets her friend Froggy, she says she doesn't have time for anything but ballet now. He shows her his dance, and Catty Jane dismisses it as not being ballet at all. She goes home to practice the right way while Froggy and two other friends, Piggy and Goose, have a dance party.

Valeri Gorbachev is the author and illustrator of Catty Jane who Loved to Dance, a children's picture book which reveals that while becoming a ballerina takes a certain kind of commitment, it doesn't mean you can't appreciate how others dance and express themselves.
