Thomas the toad is new in town. He wants to stand apart from the crowd and be seen as someone special. So he parades around the place as if he owned it. But no one seems to be impressed by him. In fact, he does not even register in the minds of the majority of folk in town.

Not to descend into oblivion, Thomas transforms himself into a bully, but he's an awful bully and no one buys it. He finds someone to pick on but does not enjoy the process. His quest finally leads him to a friend who sees him as he wants to be seen.

Hats off to writer Janice Levy and illustrators Bill Slavin and Esperanca Melo for this portrait of the loneliness that comes from trying to be someone special by standing out from the crowd. Lots of bullies are just imposters looking for love in all the wrong places.
