This book presents an overview of spiritual developments in our time. In the opening pages, he argues that philosophy is organized around "the thoughtful life of spiritual self-transformation." In 17 erudite and illuminating essays, Feuerstein, founder of the Yoga Research Center and author of many books on consciousness, spins out his ideas about wisdom, embodiment, soul, spirit, imagination, enlightenment, freedom, wholeness, and New Age thought.
Two chapters are especially interesting. In the first, Feuerstein celebrates intuition as "holistic perception" and then goes on to delineate the development of psychic gifts as a domain of this faculty. He even defines spiritual illumination as "intuition in the highest octave." Feuerstein is also very high on integral consciousness which he sees as "an intensification of consciousness, opening up a new way of perceiving ourselves and the world." This exploration of inner space adds greatly to the art of mindful living and our evolution as philosophical beings.
