George Feuerstein, the author of more than 30 books, is internationally known for his seminal contributions to the East-West dialogue. His wife Brenda is the director of Traditional Yoga Studies and co-director of Green Yoga Initiative.

Many biologists believe we are in the midst of the Sixth Mass Extinction; one sign of it is that every day 150 entire species vanish forever. The Feuersteins are convinced that what they call "Green Yoga" can help prevent the worst from happening, and they challenge the estimated 30 million Yoga practitioners to adapt it as a way of life. They believe that the moral and philosophical practices of yoga are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. This spiritual tool champions a holistic worldview, it reverences all forms of life, and it is concerned not just with personal salvation but with the welfare of the planet.

Some of the many topics the Feuersteins cover include global warming; pollution of land, water, and air; the scary extinction rate; deforestation; loss of topsoil; and decline of drinking water. The last chapter in the book contains Green Yoga suggestions of practical things you can do to make a difference.
