In his 2002 paperback titled Working with Oneness, Sufi teacher and author Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee presented an inspiring glimpse of mystics struggling to bring about the healing and transformation that so many spiritual people around the world are yearning for. In this volume, the author continues the exploration of how the lovers of God are using "the light of oneness" to move beyond old patterns of domination and greed and bring about a fresh sense of human possibility in the global community. He notes: "Mystics do not seek to overthrow the present system, or impose any new world-order. Their work is far more subtle and subversive. Working on the inner planes, behind the scenes of life, they can free some of the energy patterns that nourish the world."

For example, mystics can bring to the forefront of human consciousness the remembrance and service of God, who created the world and all that is in it. Mystics from different religious traditions can help others acknowledge the connections that link us together. They are also the ultimate realists in a world where so much emphasis is put upon the illusion of separation. These Friends of God can teach all peoples about the great opposites of light and darkness, freedom and coercion. And best of all, they can emphasize the spiritual potential of matter and lead the way to helping all nurture the physical universe. This is a feminine process, and it offers great possibilities for healing and bringing balance to the tattered and shattered earth. Hats off to Vaughan-Lee for his visionary presentation of the role of mystical activists in these troubled times!
